This morning following breakfast, our schedule deviated from the norm a little. Today offered a little more downtime for campers, and they even got a reprieve from cleaning their cabins this morning, therefore no Golden Dustpan Awards today. During breakfast, Kollin Sokeland was the recipient of a Paper Plate “#1 Gopher” award because he is consistently a runner to get food and drink refills during meals. Immediately following breakfast was the Tug of War Championship Tournament. Following that campers had a few hours of free time, allowing campers and staff alike to play in volleyball and corn hole tournaments. The volleyball tournament champs were called “Glory,” consisting of Silver Team Captain Corey Willis, Navy Team Captains Todd & Tammy Walker, videographers Kevin & Whitney Colvin, and Lime Team Captain David McGaughey. The corn hole champs were Ryan Walker & Chase Cleary.
Prior to lunch, everyone gathered in the amphitheater for a special song and scripture service. After lunch, teams rotated between Ultimate Frisbee, canoe heats, lip synch practice, Air Raid, and “Deal or No Deal.” After an extremely busy afternoon and shower time, we all nearly foundered on Ms. Belinda’s famous chicken and noodles dinner! Following dinner, everyone enjoyed watching Disney’s “Frozen” movie on a 32 foot inflatable screen on the lower sports field. The temperatures were unseasonably cool, so the majority of campers and staff were bundled up in sweatshirts and blankets to stay warm. Despite the cool temperatures, many enjoyed homemade root beer floats thanks to Jason Dorn and nachos thanks to the kitchen staff. After a long, but wonderful day at MSC, many dozed off during the movie and no one complained when it was time to go to bed following.
In addition to being the 4th of July, tomorrow is the highly-anticipated Team Day, which means it’s OBSTACLE COURSE TIME!!! Tomorrow evening, camp’s competitive events will draw to a close with the annual lip synch show.
As we are about to retire for the night to rest up for tomorrow’s activities, we wish you a peaceful and restful goodnight from Shakamak State Park on Thursday, July 3.
