Our theme of camp this week is “Impossible is Nothing” from Luke 18:27: “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” After registration was complete, parents were invited to say for worship this evening before telling their campers goodbye and heading home. Last year Sr. Week camper Jacob Stout preached during the worship service and he discussed “The Three Impossibilities of Daniel” because God was on his side, and with God, the impossible with man is possible.
1. In Daniel 1:1-5, we see that Babylon was deceiving and besieging Israel, but Daniel would not defile himself by eating King Nebuchadnezzar’s meat (Daniel 1:6-8). Typically when eating nothing but vegetables and drinking nothing but water, humans are not strengthened, but rather become weak. But because God was on their side, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were strengthened by eating only vegetables and water for 10 days (Daniel 1:9-14).
2. In Daniel 3:1-7, Nebuchadnezzar declared that he would throw those individuals who worshiped God into a fiery furnace, but according to verses 8-16, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not willing to worship false Gods. Because they wouldn’t turn their back on God, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace, but because God was on their side, they were not harmed in the furnace–their hair was not singed and they didn’t even smell of smoke (Daniel 3:22-28).
3. In Daniel 6:1-9, the rulers were trying to get Daniel in trouble because he was praying to God. The rulers forced the king to sign a decree which would force Daniel not to pray for 30 days, but he continued to pray three times a day. As a result, Daniel was cast into the lions’ den (Daniel 6:14-17), but he was saved because he believed in his God and remained faithful (Daniel 6:18-23).
