Following the MSC Talent Show tonight, we all once again gathered on the lower sports field to sing praises to God. It was great to lift up our voices in song, despite the fact that much of the crowd had donned sweatshirts as temperatures had dropped to 63 degrees. As we said last night, yesterday was a beautiful day, but, unbelievably, today was even more beautiful as the high temperature struggled to reach 80 and the white clouds in the deep blue sky were stunning. Tonight’s low temperature is going to be around 55 degrees and tomorrow’s high will be around 75, which will make the canoe heats in Lake Shakamak a tad bit chilly!
Once again today, we started the morning with rotations of Bible class, crafts, and today’s special event, disc golf. Following lunch, all teams competed in tug of war on the lower sports field, Battleship on the upper sports field, team crafts, lip synch practice, and all teams once again practiced canoeing in preparation for tomorrow’s canoe heats.
During breakfast this morning, kitchen staffer Jeremy Goen presented a Paper Plate “Smile Award” to Navy Team Captain Todd Walker and his brother, sports staffer Sean Walker for always having a huge smile on their faces to help brighten everyone’s day. During lunch, the “Golden Dustpan Awards” were handed out to girls Cabin #1 and boys Cabin #0. They will each display their award for the next day, while the dirtiest cabins, girls Cabin #9 and boys Cabin #10 were punished by cleaning the Mess Hall restrooms following dinner tonight.
There was a heaping helping of great sportsmanship throughout the day today, but the team that rose above the rest and earned today’s Sportsmanship Award was Team Orange, led by captains Brad & Rhonda Hawk.
Tomorrow will be a special day at MSC as all campers and staff will wear a very special t-shirt, but we’ll keep that secret under wraps until then. We wish you a peaceful and restful goodnight from Shakamak State Park on Wednesday, July 2.
